		<description><![CDATA[I was lucky, Gordon.  Jerry saw the future better than I was able to -- I&#039;m just glad I somehow had the thought of mind to take the letter out of my pocket and show it to Jerry.  That movement to give Jerry the letter was not a conscious decision on my part.

		<description><![CDATA[I was not really interested in New York.  I loved D.C. and I was getting my work/friends network set up and I was thrilled to be out on my own and out of school.  To pick up and move again and to go back to school again so soon was just too much to even consider -- and I wouldn&#039;t have without Jerry&#039;s intervention.  He was right that D.C. would always be there, but an offer like that from Columbia would not last.  I had already deferred for a year from Columbia, so this was my second, and last, chance to bite.
